Today's muffin tin lunch is a very simple one. This is what a typical lunch looks like at our house. The only problem that I have is that Madelyn will not eat veggies. Not in any form. The raw veggies and dip, she licks the dip off and nothing else. Cooked veggies, she chews and spits out. It's so frustrating. I offer them with every meal in the hopes that someday she will eat them, but so far, no go. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it:)
So here it is!
Top row: cucumbers, ranch dip, carrots
Bottom row: ketchup, chicken nuggets, mac & cheese

Man, when the veggies are prepped like that it`s hard to believe she won`t eat them. Keep the faith and keep on making meal time fun and she`ll come around :) Good luck SITSta!!
ReplyDeleteI think mac 'n cheese should be another food group!!
ReplyDeletehave you tried "hiding" them in meals? Jessica Sienfeld has a book out about that as well as another lady. I think the book is called the "sneaky chef". I am not for being decietful with our kids...but maybe try it and still offer her the other stuff...I used to offer my kids one item at a time (when they were really little toddlers) they thought all we were having for dinner was chicken pieces-so they always ate it up!
There is a great cookbook called Deceptively Delicious or something like that. Google it! :) I've heard from two good friends that it is awesome for getting the veggies into foods without tasting them.
ReplyDeleteI cook carrots or mixed veggies for my little guy and then sprinkle the tiniest amount of cinnamon on them and he finishes them every time!
Great tin today! I think I'll do it for dinner tonight!
I have the same problem trying to get Brock to eat veggies. I also serve them at every meal hoping he will magically start eating them one day! He will eat some corn and one or two green beans but that is it!
ReplyDeleteOooohhh, will you make that for my lunch? :) I'm drooling just looking at the picture!! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm late, but CONGRATS on being saucy!!!
What a cute idea for kids meals!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on the saucy blog!
OK, this is the BEST idea EVER! I LOVE it!! Came over via SITS (congrats, by the way!) and so glad I did because this is an oober fun blog!!
ReplyDelete~melody~
My little girl won't eat any veggies either! When you find out the secret...let me know :)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS. Congrats on being a saucy blog!
I thought kids were supposed to hate veggies??? hehehe This is such a saucy idea.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on being saucy!!! OK, this is the BEST idea EVER!
ReplyDeleteOur meals were kind of similar. Glad to have met you through this muffin tin mondays! Your blog looks fun!

blend it into a fruity smoothie? Sneak it under the cheese on a pizza? Oh, I don't know, but I sure wish you the best of luck. And congrats on being saucy this week! I love the turkeys!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice:) I'll try to find that cookbook and still keep trying to introduce a veggie at every meal. I'll also keep my fingers crossed, maybe she will learn to love veggies like the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Not sure this will help with eating veggies, but Juice Plus has gummy vitamins that are whole food vitamins. There's a vegetable combo and a fruit combo. So at least they get the nutrients from the veggies if they're not eating them.
ReplyDeleteI think you sound like my own mum...we are a family of 5 kids too, and she was always at home looking after us...nice blog, i'm working thru it, you are on my list of Saucy Girls to visit this week...congrats :)
ReplyDeleteI love this muffin tin idea. My daughter is too young, but I'm storing the idea away for future meals! Have you heard of the book 'Deceptively Delicious'? You secretly cook veggies into regular meals. My sister-in-law swears by it, her kids always get their veggies even though they don't know it! tee hee hee
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea!!
ReplyDeleteJust found you on SITS! Oh, this is a great little idea! Wish I had thought of something like this when my kids were little.
ReplyDeleteMaybe my grandchildren one day, I hope!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
You are so creative, I'm sure my kids would eat that if I did something so cute with the food!
ReplyDeleteAw, I say the veggies are just a toddler thing. I used to be thrilled when I finally got BFG to like a veggie, but then a month later she'd be spitting it out. For us, it comes and goes. I just make her try whatever I cook, roll my eyes as she spits it out, and have faith that by the time she's forty she'll probably be eating some veggies.
ReplyDeleteBTW, how do you do all those adorable crafts with 5 kids?!?! I can't squeeze them in with one kid!!!
I found you on SITS! Congra'ts on being saucy!

Congrats on being Saucy!
ReplyDeleteHmm, the only tip I can suggest (and this comes from someone who doesn't have a child...)... when I was a little girl... if my parents wanted my brother and I to TRY something, they would deny it to us. How funny is that?
For instance, if Mom and Dad were eating Eggplant, but they knew we wouldn't try it willingly, they would put it only on their plates. Then Rob and I would ask, "What's that?" Pointing to their plate. My parents would say, "Oh, you won't like this. This is adult food for Moms and Dads." Then we'd beg like crazy to try it. Lol.
Hey, it's reverse psych and sometimes it works!
Oh thats a great idea! I'll have to get some of those for my munchkin too! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat lunch - my kids will eat veggies, but I still slip the purees in whenever I can just to increase the volume! And I love your Turkey layout - very cute!
ReplyDeleteI love this!! If I were home I'd totally participate in Muffin Tin Mondays...
ReplyDeleteLove this! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the muffin tin lunch...we did that when I was home over the summer.
ReplyDeleteAs for veg--Noah is 3.5 and I have just now convinced him to take at least 2 bites. It doesn't work every time, but he always tells me as soon as I get to daycare if he actually did it that day. Sometimes he (gasp) even eats more than the 2 bites! I haven't resorted to a sticker chart (those are reserved for going to bed nicely and getting up without being a crab and not coming to my bed in the middle of the night) but maybe your girl could earn a sticker for her 2 bites.
I don't think it gets a lot better. My 8 year old still avoids them like the plague. Makes me crazy!
ReplyDeleteCute idea and great way for picky eaters to "pick around." Congrats on having a saucy blog!
ReplyDeleteI just did a little dance! FINALLY another mama with a little one that won't touch veggies! Mine will eat cucumbers till the cows come home, but it doesn't count because she wont eat the skin and the rest is mostly water. And we've tried it all. *sigh* Someday...
ReplyDeleteAm really enjoying your blog. Linked in from SITS and I'll have to add you to my reader so I can keep up with all the awesome stuff you have going on!
Oh I love your blog. Congratulations on your sauciness! OK I was seriously trying to "market" the veggies to my kids until I read this article in the NYT saying that all you have to do to develop the healthiest lifelong eating habits is to model good nutrition and provide healthy options. It made me feel better:

I've also tried offering a huge variety of veggies --who knew they'd actually try artichoke? Also we were able to grow a few in our garden. Those were more popular than supermarket ones.
