Handprint ornaments make the best keepsakes. Pulling the decorations out year after year and seeing just how tiny my kids hands were way back when makes me smile. These ornaments are super easy and work well with hands or feet.
You will need:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- ribbon
2. Mix the ingredients well. The dough should be firm.
3. Knead the dough until it's smooth. Pull a piece off and roll it into a ball.
6. Poke 2 holes in the top of the ornament.
So cute!! We make ours out of Model Magic. I have to make sure to find time to do it with the new baby this year. :)
ReplyDeleteI have one of these from when JDaniel was about 8 months old. I need to make another again this year.
ReplyDeleteI love handprint crafts! What a wonderful idea to do with a baby! I featured your post on the Living Montessori Now Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LivingMontessoriNow
ReplyDeleteapproximately how many ornaments will this recipe make?
ReplyDeletethanks!
What a fantastic idea. I think I am going to make one for my tree and give one to the gradnparents and god parents if I have enough dough.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE this!!!!!! Thanks for sharing how to make one!
ReplyDeleteI need to do this with my son. My mom did something similar but traced our hands on plates. She added our names and date on the plates. Then she hung them on ribbon and gave them to my grandparents.
ReplyDeletevisiting from SITS
i just did this and it didnt turn out like yours. U can barely see the handprint now that it is baked...suggestions??
ReplyDeleteOh no! So sorry it didn't work for you. The only thing I can say is that we really pressed the hand deep into the dough to make a good impression. Other than that, I'm not sure I can offer any other advice.
ReplyDeleteI, too, would like to know how many ornaments this would make?? This is such a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteCaprice.is.Mom,
ReplyDeleteI made 3 hand print ornaments with this dough and several cut-outs as well. We'll paint those some day soon. :0)
Thanks!
Thank you! I have 3 boys, so that's perfect! :)
ReplyDeleteFound it!!
ReplyDeleteOk, that's just so simple and cool! I might have to do that today. Looking forward to having a look around for more craft ideas.
ReplyDeleteso sweet! I love milestone little things like handprints and measuring my kids on the wall ... proof that they are indeed growing!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your SITS day!
It's a little late to do this with my kids, but grandkids probably aren't too far off. I'll have to remember this and help my kids create the keepsakes they'll want someday.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It's a beautiful idea.
I love this idea!!! I'm thinking we should do it at this years Christmas party. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great, and cheap, idea!
ReplyDeleteOur kiddo will be just shy of 9 months old this Christmas, and I love this as a way to commemorate his first Christmas! Thanks for sharing, and happy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteI received a gift set for a handprint plaque but never realized this was an idea you could do yourself! Love the ornament idea.
ReplyDeleteHope you've had a wonderful SITS day!
I assume you used all purpose flour? Excited about trying this with my daughter this year!
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions? I tried this and it didnt get super hard...the back is still soft almost bendable. Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks a million
ReplyDeleteI've never had that problem, so I'm not sure how to fix it. Perhaps it needs to bake a little longer. I wish I could be more helpful! :)
