Funnel Cakes

During the summer we visit lots of carnivals and we almost always find ourselves indulging in a funnel cake while we are there. But why should we wait for a carnival for one of our favorite treats? Well, we don’t! Every now and then, we have them at home too.Funnel Cake
You will need:
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
1 1/3 cups sifted flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
Beat the egg and add the milk. Sift dry ingredients together, then add the egg/milk mixture. Beat until smooth. In a heavy skillet, heat 1 1/2" oil to 375 degrees. Holding your finger over the end of a funnel, fill it with the batter. Using a circular motion, pour the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle powdered sugar over the top and enjoy!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Madelyn and Felicia were busy playing together and actually getting along, when Felicia decided that they would play “party”. She called Madelyn on her pretend phone to invite her over for the big bash. Madelyn’s response, “Well, I’ll have to ask my parole officer.”

Huh? Maybe she was pretending to be Lindsay Lohan.

I’m really not sure how a cookie can turn into this, but she certainly seemed to enjoy it!

Time to Fatten the Baby

Today was Stella’s 12 month check up. It went very well, with only one slight concern. It seems that her weight gain has slowed down. (If only I had that problem) At just 18 lbs. she is quite smaller than my other kids were at this age. So, it’s time to fatten up the baby! Her pediatrician suggested adding butter to her food, giving her more cheese, and even giving her some ice cream. Which, by the way, hubby does quite frequently! lol!

With a diet like that, she’ll be a little chunker in no time!

Muffin Tin Monday-Dippers

With summer activities in full swing, it’s becoming more and more difficult to get the girls to sit still long enough to eat anything. They like lunches that can quickly be gobbled up so they can get back to the fun. Things they can dip are always a big hit so this lunch was perfect for them!

They had: tomatoes and cucumbers with ranch dip, mozzarella sticks with pizza sauce, and bananas with chocolate sauce

Bubble Snake Maker

014
Bubbles are a staple for summertime fun at our house and there are many different ways to use them. This is one of our favorites! We have been making bubble snake makers for the past few years and the kids never get tired of using them.
Cut the bottom off an empty soda bottle.005
Attach a washcloth to the bottom with a rubber band.006
Dip the washcloth into some bubble solution and blow through the top.010
Of course there is usually a competition to see who can blow the longest bubble snake!
