Time to Fatten the Baby

Today was Stella’s 12 month check up. It went very well, with only one slight concern. It seems that her weight gain has slowed down. (If only I had that problem) At just 18 lbs. she is quite smaller than my other kids were at this age. So, it’s time to fatten up the baby! Her pediatrician suggested adding butter to her food, giving her more cheese, and even giving her some ice cream. Which, by the way, hubby does quite frequently! lol!

With a diet like that, she’ll be a little chunker in no time!

  1. My oldest was like that...he was a whopping 16 lbs at his 1-yr checkup, and is still skinny (and healthy) as can be at 4 yrs. We added olive oil instead of butter when possible.

  2. We had the same issue with our Skinny Minnie when she was 1. We called it the "Later Elvis Diet" - our doctor had us put cream cheese and butter on everything, etc.

The biggest thing was to switch to full fat cheeses and yogurt for her; we'd only ever given her what we had in the house already, which was all low-fat stuff. (Besides whole milk for her that we had to keep her on until age 3.)

Now, she just had her 8th birthday annual check-up, and she's still at the 25th %ile for weight... But she's healthy & growing, which is all that counts!

  3. Be careful with all the full fat stuff though...my daughter was always (and still is) skinny, but at 3 years her cholesterol was high. Some kids just have a good metabolism which is a very good thing.

  4. Happy eating, Stella! We had to do the same thing with Dylan. Honestly, it never worked, lol...he's just meant to be tall and skinny!

  6. My boys are all very small. One of them hit the 20 pound mark around 13 months, one of them around 18 months, and one of them not until 20 months! My pediatrician says better slender than the alternative, right? ;-)

  7. I bet she her body is doing exactly what it wants to do - she'll just be a little smaller. But no reason to NOT give her the ice cream - makes for excellent photo ops for sure! :)

  9. Wow, it is an amazing diet. I follow it as well :). My baby boy weighed a little over 17 lbs at his last dr visit over the past weekend. He is 7 months old. He is chubby and playful :)

  10. Our day apart girls are also both 18 lbs! Rory is healthy and happy, but I have been skipping her well-baby visits, because, just like with my other skinny, happy, healthy babies, I know they are going to comment on her weight. She is exceeding all her mile-stones and is eating well, so I don't have any concerns in the weight area. Just trust your mommy instincts!
